Draycote sailor Mike Wood has just won the Topper World Championships at Lake Garda. He had not sailed the Topper since the Inland Championships at the beginning of May as he has been campaigning in the 29er. This summer he has competed successfully in the German Youth Championship, the Europeans Championships in Sweden and the British Nationals at Llandudno.
He travelled straight from Llandudno on the Friday evening after racing and arrived in Italy midday on Sat and sailed his Topper for the first time on Sunday morning.

There were 173 boats competing at the championship. Mike won the event with 19 points over 5 races to become the 2007 World Champion.

Miracle National Champions

31 boats entered the Miracle National Championships with an almost equal split between Gold, Silver and Bronze fleets. Winds throughout the week were 4-5 with rough seas.

Most races were sailed over the sand banks on the Menai Straites, with the exception of Monday when the Race Officer set a course in the bay where the conditions were less fierce. Although most of the fleet chose to beat into the Straites, where the winds and tide were more beneficial.

After some hard fought races, Draycote sailors Paul Huett and son Callum in Miracle 3825 finished as the overall Miracle Champion with 11 points.

Draycote Water would like to congratulate our champions on their excellent results.
