Arrangements for the second Inter-Fleet Championships are progressing well. The racing is set to follow a similar format to last year - continuous short course racing in front of the clubhouse for all to see from 11.00am until 4.00pm with a short lunch break. This year the classes to be sailed are Laser Vagos courtesy of Rugby School, Fireflies courtesy of Warwick University and our own Picos.
There will again be several other activities both on an off the water and we hope there will be something for everyone, both members and their guests. On shore the popular 'Stilt Walker / Conjurer' is coming back together with a circus-style entertainer and a Junior Fun Run in the afternoon. Afloat, there will be the opportunity for non-sailing family and friends to have a go in a dinghy with qualified RYA instructors and Max will be laying on trial windsurfing sessions. In addition, Rugby Canoe Club are coming and offering trial goes in canoes and there will be a Dragon boat for those who wish to try their hand at paddling in something larger! Over the lunch period there will be some 'sailing games' for less experienced juniors.
On the evening before, an informal barbecue will be lit at 5.15pm for all to come along and bring their own food and make a weekend of it. A family quiz is being organised for later that evening.
Max has kindly agreed that 'Onboard' will again sponsor the event which will be sailed for the 'Onboard Cup'. In addition we have new sponsors in 'Branfibre' a local firm who specialise in repairing GRP dinghies and 'Laser' who are providing us with a spare boat.
As for the organisation on the day, the fleet captain will appoint a 'Team Manager' who will ensure that racing is continuous - last year 27 races were held. The SI's contain a clause stating 'Each team shall have a minimum of 10 sailors but no maximum number as all are encouraged to participate'. If any fleet is unable to raise a team then please let us know and we can organise another class to join you out of the large menagerie fleet. There will be a briefing for all sailors at 10.15am with the first start at 11.00am.
The teams are the same as last year - namely Fireballs, Flying Fifteens, Solos, Miracles, Menagerie and Youth & Junior. The Y&J's were winners in 2007 and have been practising hard over the winter in short course races so will be hard to beat!
Lets hope for another good 'Fun Day' at the club for the whole family and club to enjoy. Please spread the word to all your fleet. Any queries please get in touch.

Elizabeth & Tim Fillmore Dave Bevan (Rear Commodore - Sail) Malcolm Lewin
