Draycote Water Sailing Club

Visitors Guidelines

DWSC Visitor’s Information

The Committee, staff, and members would like to welcome you to Draycote Water Sailing Club. Please take a few minutes to read the following important information, it’s for your safety and enjoyment, and also ensures that as a club, we adhere to the rules of our Landlords, Severn Trent, and that we can continue to welcome visitors to this great venue.

  • Unloading your boat - Please unload your vehicle and park your boat in the visitors launch area, (Rigging areas A & B) - see map.
  • Vehicle Parking - After unloading, please then immediately park your vehicle in the main car park. Please do not park on slipways, roadways or grass banks, we have had issues with access blocked for emergency ambulances and wheelchair users in the past.
  • Clubhouse access - For your security, you will be given a door code to access the clubhouse and changing rooms upon registration.   The office will be happy to keep valuables/keys for you, however, please note that we cannot accept liability for any valuables etc on site.
  • Safety afloat - Your safety is paramount:
    • Only sail if you feel confident in the conditions.
    • The water is not open unless the club burgee is flying from the top of the mast outside the clubhouse.
    • In medium breeze of F4 and above, a black cone shape is flown from the club mast-consider staying ashore if you are inexperienced and ensure you are suitably clothed and sailing within your abilities. Club boats cannot be hired when the cone is flying.
    • As the wind builds to adverse conditions, an additional black ball is flown along with the cone, and all sailors and windsurfers must report to the Bosun to sign a “pink” sheet before sailing.
    • If you are requested to go ashore by the Bosun or rescue staff please do so immediately, and please remember people’s safety is ALWAYS prioritised over boats or equipment.
  • Lounge access - Sailors in wet gear and/or sailing gear are not allowed in the upstairs lounge.  Please use the wet bar at ground level
  • Boat security - Please stake and tie your boat down if there is any chance of the weather/wind moving it and causing damage to it or other boats. Stakes are available to purchase from the Bosun.
  • Registration - Please ensure that you have registered at the office and paid any fees due before going afloat.  In addition, please ensure any health or parental consent forms have been completed prior to sailing.
  • Powerboat drivers and Coaches - Visiting coaches/safety personnel driving powerboats need to bring their powerboat qualifications (L2 for Rigiflexes and Safety Boat for RIBs) and coaching qualifications (RYA Racing Coach Level 2, Dinghy Instructor with Racing endorsement or above) with them so they can be copied and filed in the office
  • Dogs - Dogs are not permitted on site, however they are allowed in the adjoining country park.
  • Payment - Entry fees is by cash or cheque only and meals and drinks are cash only.

  • Lastly, we sincerely hope you enjoy your visit, and if there is anything we can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to ask us. Have a great sail!
